Search Engines
This Search Engines page is comprised of general, and specific, search engines. Since I am a librarian, I guess they should be in some sort of order, but, um, they’re not. Look for Directories on the Directories page.
Google
The “go to” search engine - seems I use it everyday, several times a day…
Mamma - The Mother of all Search Engines
I had a patron ask me a question - he found the answer before I did using this metasearch.
Snopes
Find out if that stupid e-mail is real or not BEFORE sending it along to another poor sucker. Search your Urban Legends here.
Download.com
This is where I go when I am looking for new software or utilities. There are many other places to look, but I always seem to start here.
Google Blog Search
I swear I’m not employed by Google. Again, just a good place to start - especially since you don’t have to submit your blog to get it included.
Femina
A search engine with links to groovy woman and girl-centered websites. Been around for a while, and continues to grow. May not be great for general searching, but if you are into women’s issues or research, it’s an interesting read.
Wink
A “social search engine,” the search results link to pages that other Wink users have tagged/rated/stored. Shares features with places like del.icio.us, but works better as a search engine (I think).
Scroogle
Scroogle scrapes Google to present search results without ads or saving your search information. A nice alternative to those concerned with some of the privacy issues Google and other search sites have raised.
Ixquick
A metasearch that provides private searching. Returns results from a number of serach engines. I’ve used it - works pretty well, and is cool if you are concerned about your search privacy.
